Streamer Purpose: Through remote learning and in preparing for how school may look in the future, I had a thought/concern that I wanted to present so that we can prepare accordingly. We have many students with hearing loss as well as staff members that wear hearing aids. A concern that has been brought up is how our staff and students are going to be able to hear if unable to read lips due to wearing masks at school. Another concern is that if we do some type of hybrid or continued remote learning how to access live captioning. Our google meetings provide a cc option and I have been supporting our students with other free accommodations on how to get captioning on videos that don't have captioning available. An option I would love for us to consider for the district is: Streamer https://streamer.center/ Streamer would allow our students and staff to be able to receive live captioning of what is happening in the classroom without masks impacting their ability to be able to access the auditory information. It can also be used in conjunction with our current FM systems. It has a number of benefits for more than our students/staff with hearing loss. For students that require notes - this is an option. Our ELL students would benefit as it can transcribe in their native language. I also believe that it would be a great UDL for all students. |
